What CTET English asks

PartTopics
ComprehensionAn unseen prose passage and a poem; questions on meaning, vocabulary and grammar from the passage
PedagogyHow children learn language, the four skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing), teaching grammar in context, assessment, remedial teaching, challenges of a multilingual classroom

How to prepare

  1. Read one prose passage and one short poem daily and answer comprehension questions on them.
  2. Learn the pedagogy vocabulary — acquisition vs learning, the communicative approach, formative and summative assessment, scaffolding.
  3. Revise grammar basics; CTET asks them through the passage (identify the part of speech, the tense, the voice).
  4. Solve previous CTET language sections — the pedagogy questions repeat ideas year after year.
